We, Mothers

This is the price of war.
No movie set No glamour.
Just one dying soldier.
Was he someone's son, brother, father, or husband.
What was his faith.
What was he thinking.
Did he know death had come for him.

Here is my response.

We, Mothers

We, mothers are birthing the nations, the countries, the peacekeepers, the war mongers.
We, mothers are birthing the soldiers, the caregivers, the religions, the workers.
We, mothers are birthing the mothers, the fathers, the governments, and the leaders.
We, mothers are birthing all we see, we do, we hear and we speak.
We, mothers are birthing those that will give birth.
We, mothers are birthing all that is and will be and all that has passed.

We, mothers can dry a tear, fix a cut, teach a nursery rhyme and teach to hug.
We, mothers can give birth to peace, to love and to acceptance.
We, mothers think carefully to all we are birthing.

If all this is true, then surely we, mothers can say to those we birth: lay down your guns.
If all this is true, then surely we, mothers can say to those we birth: you are responsible to better this world.
If all this is true, then surely we, mothers can say to those we birth: everything you say, everything you do, everything you touch my child leaves mark on someone, something or somewhere in time that can never be undone please my child be careful of the marks you are making.

This I pray for we, mothers.
This I pray will be your prayer if only for a moment.
